The grant is presented through the Ohio Elks Associations State Major Project for Cerebral Palsy.
It will be used by Belco Works for its many cerebral palsy programs.
New Philadelphia Elks Help Those with Cerebral Palsy
Cindy Rinehart, Lodge Cerebral Palsy Chairman of New Philadelphia Lodge #510 presented a $3,000 check to Carmel Haueter, Executive Director of the Tuscarawas Society for Children and Adults.

The State Major Project Cerebral Palsy made donations to 27 facilities that provide care, equipment and training to those afflicted with Cerebral Palsy.
Lorain Elks Honor Lorain's Native Sons at Victory Park
Lorain Elks continue to make Lorain’s Victory Park look beautiful while also honoring the city’s native sons.

Gallipolis Elks Delivers Grant Checks For Cerebral Palsy
Gallipolis Elks #107 deliver CP grants checks
Exalted Ruler Bob Marchi and PER Walton Brown of Gallipolis Elks Lodge #107 presented Cerebral Palsy grant checks to Suzanne Eachus, Principal, Guiding Hand School, Gallia County Board of Mental Retardation/Developmental Disabilities (MR/DD) and Kay Davis, Director of Education, Meigs County Board of MR/DD.
The grants, which totaled $13,514, were provided by the Ohio Elks Association Cerebral Palsy Fund Board. Meigs County MRDD received a check for $400 to cover the expenses of one of their students to attend summer camp while Guiding Hand received $800 to cover the expenses of two students. Ms. Eachus will use their grant to purchase a giant, interactive sensory light board for the students while Kay Davis will purchase musical playground pieces.

Ashland Elks Lodge #1360 hosted the North Central Ohio district meeting May 18-20, 2018.
Ashland Elks Lodge #1360 hosted the North Central Ohio district meeting May 18-20, 2018. The party was a Tex-Mex themed with an awesome steak dinner and entertainment from the Crazy Gringos band.
At the meeting on Sunday, new district officers were installed, including Ashland's own Rob Nixon as district activities chair. Also showcased was Ashland's newly renovated lodge floor. A good time was had by all and we look forward to the next meeting in October at Norwalk #730.

The Newark Elks #391 Scholarships were presented May 15, 2018, to FIVE well deserving students. These graduating seniors , who were children or grandchildren of our members, represented several County schools.

They were each awarded a $500 scholarship towards their education, as we continue to support and encourage our youth.

Alliance Lodge #467 Hosts Annual Youth Recognition Dinner
The Alliance Elks Lodge 467 held the annual Youth Recognition banquet on May 3th. Recognized were the Teenagers of the Year from seven local schools, scholarship winners, Eagle Scouts, Americanism essay winners, and Hoop Shoot winners.

Selected as Teenagers of the Year by their respective schools based upon scholarship, leadership, character, and service were Madison Gasparik and Braijon Clayton from Alliance High School; Robin Campbell and Spencer Frase from Marlington High School; Kirsten Plocher and Tyler DeShields from West Branch High School; Olivia Woods and Luke Clark from Sebring McKinley High School; Harlie Murphy and Ryan Mong from Louisville High School; Angela Farolino and Christian Harwood from Saint Thomas Aquinas High School; and Grace Maley and Daniel Talkington from Minerva High School.
Americanism essay winners who wrote about “why our veterans are heroes” were recognized by Marilyn Dailey. Those recognized were Alix Leonard, Chelsea Evanich, Caroline Barnett, Ashton Stutler, and Caroline Denny. Julia Schwartz was presented a plaque for placing 3rd place at the National level last year.
Eagle Scouts were recognized by District Executive Christopher Hyde. Those present were Brayden Costea , Cameron Morrison, Charles Glass, Evan Yost, Zachary Haskell, and Daniel Talkington.
Hoop Shoot winners presented with awards by Amy Gabelt were Audrey Eaton and Brennan Thomas (age 8-9); Shaylee Mucklero and Colton Norris(age 10-11); Morgan Loudon and Brendon Zurbrugg (age 12-13).
Marysville Elks recognize the Graduation Seniors in the Antlers
The Marysville Elks recently recognized the graduating Seniors in the Antlers program. Three of the students have been members of the group since the Antlers was founded 6 years ago. Three of the students received $250 scholarships from the Elks in recognition of their accomplishments in the Antlers.
The Marysville Elks recently recognized the graduating Seniors in the Antlers program. Three of the students have been members of the group since the Antlers was founded 6 years ago. Three of the students received $250 scholarships from the Elks in recognition of their accomplishments in the Antlers.
The Antlers are a service organization sponsored by the Elks. This year the group held many drug free events (dances/movie nights) where admission was obtained by bringing items such as cereal, hamburger helper or peanut butter for the food pantry. They also hosted a spaghetti dinner to raise money to purchase a “little red wagon” for Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Altogether, the students donated over 10,000 hours of service to the Marysville Community.
The Antlers are a youth group open to all students in the 7th to 12th grades. The group meets on the 3rd Wednesday of the month (September to May) at 7 pm at the Elks Lodge, 125 E. 5th Street.

Van Wert Donates to Council on Aging
Van Wert Lodge No. 1197, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks recently donated $100 to the Van Wert County Council on Aging.
Van Wert Lodge No. 1197, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks recently donated $100 to the Van Wert County Council on Aging. The monies will go towards supporting their upcoming 8th Annual Designer Purse Bingo Fundraiser scheduled for Friday, June 8, 2018. The agency will use the donations to purchase designer handbags which will be displayed and used as bingo prizes throughout the fundraiser.
The Council on Aging transports seniors every day to medical appointments, grocery stores, pharmacies or social service appointments free of charge. The Van Wert County Council on Aging has be serving the Senior Citizens of our community for 40 years. Without these vital services, many of the county’s seniors would be forced to enter long-term care facilities. Through fundraisers such as this, the agency will be able to continue and expand their much-needed services for our senior citizens.

Van Wert Elks Honors New Eagle Scout
Van Wert Lodge No. 1197, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks participated in the Eagle Scout Court of Honor for Cole Gorman on Sunday, May 13. Cole is a member of Boy Scout Troop #32, sponsored by the Middle Point Methodist Church, Middlepoint, OH.

Cole was presented an American Flag and an Eagle Scout Certificate from the Elks. He also received a letter of commendation and a special citation from Malcolm J. McPherson Jr., Grand Exalted Ruler/National President.
For Cole’s Eagle Scout Project he installed gates at the intersection of US Route 224 and the walk/bike path that crosses it to prevent riders from inadvertently walking or riding out onto the roadway.
Representing the Van Wert Lodge at the ceremony was Michael C. Stanley, Lodge Scouting Liaison.

East Liverpool Lodge #258 Donates Nearly $1,000 to Local Charities
East Liverpool Lodge #258 donates almost $1,000 to local charities.
The East Liverpool Elks Lodge #258 donated $360 to the Veterans City Council for a new banner project designed to honor the men and women who have served our country. The 2' x 3' double sided vinyl banner will depict a photograph of the veteran and include pertinent information. Banners will be hung from light poles throughout the city from Memorial Day thru Veterans Day. Cost is $120 each.
Another $275 was donated to send a high school student to the Ohio Girls State program, which is designed to educate young women in the duties, privileges, rights and responsibilities of good citizenship.
$300 was donated to the Middle Beaver Girls Softball Association to sponsor a team for the 2018 season. Each player will wear a shirt representing the East Liverpool Elks #258.
$25 was donated to the City of East Liverpool's Animal Welfare Fund for the spay and neuter of feral cats in and around the City, for the purpose of controlling the cat population.
And finally, $25 was donated to the Student Fishing League (SFL). This organization pairs seasoned anglers with novice youth to mentor and instruct them on the joys of fishing.
Elks National Veterans Service Bags Distributed At Spring Convention
Over 100 empty National Veterans Service bags were distributed at the Ohio Elks Association Spring Convention in Columbus in April. Lodges will fill these bags and return them during the Fall reunion.
The Ohio Elks National Veterans Service Commission continued its annual tradition of passing out empty imprinted bags (with the Elks National Veterans Service Commission logo) at its Annual Spring Convention in April. The bags are to serve as a reminder of the plight of our hospitalized and Veterans, and to remind members to returned the bags “full” in August with new tee shirts, underwear, and socks. The clothing items will then be distributed among the seven Ohio Veterans hospitals/homes we serve. Over 100 bags were passed out.

The Southeast District State Officer visitation was held May 3-5 at East Liverpool Elks Lodge No. 258. As part of the weekend activities, the Lodge held a “Couples” Game (based on the popular Newlywed Game). Participants included 1st Vice-President Mark Ratliff (& Amy), Trustee Secretary Tom Pavlik (& Tracy) and Tiler Keith Denny (& Lynn), along with our Lodge Exalted Ruler Steve Hall (& Judy) with the winner receiving a $100 donation in their name to the Ohio Elks National Veterans Service Commission, as well as a brand new gold BMW – 1:64 scale Matchbox. Mark and Amy Ratliff took the honors in a game that was full of laughs, amusement, and some embarrassing moments.
Van Wert Elks Hosts DARE Graduation Party
Van Wert Elks Lodge #1197 again assisted the Van Wert City/County D.A.R.E. program with their annual DARE graduation party held on Friday evening, May 11, 2018 at the YMCA.
Van Wert Elks Lodge #1197 again assisted the Van Wert City/County D.A.R.E. program with their annual DARE graduation party held on Friday evening, May 11, 2018 at the YMCA. Approximately 300 boys and girls from Van Wert County Schools converged on the local YMCA to enjoy a fun filled evening. The students hand the opportunity to play basketball, swim, dance and visit and socialize with their classmates.
Members of Van Wert Elks Lodge were busy grilling hamburgers and hotdogs to feed the hungry boys and girls. The kids also enjoyed ice cream at the end. The local Elks Lodge provides the food and drinks for the local event each year and prepares the food for the hungry youngsters. The monies are made available to the local lodge from the Elks National Foundation in the form of a Promise Grant. These grants are available to the local lodges that wish to sponsor any type of drug and alcohol free event in the community. The Elks are proud to be able to assist with this great event for the kids.

On Saturday May 5, the Van Wert Elks Lodge #1197 held its annual Soccer Shoot. It was a beautiful day and 25 young ones joined in the fun.

There was a Girls division and a Boys division and the participants competed in four age groups. Trophies were awarded to the 1st and 2nd place finishers. All the 1st Place Winners will advance to the District Competition to be held on Saturday, June 2 in Findlay, OH.

This year the CP per-capita for each Lodge is $4.00 per member. Lodges need to make their per-capita in order to be considered for grants. These grants can be used to help support facilities in your community that treat children and adults with Cerebral Palsy.

What a wonderful (and busy) weekend in Dublin this past weekend!
Thank you and congratulations to all of the contestants in the Ritual, Eleven O’clock Toast, and Flag Charge contests. I admire your courage and dedication to Ritual. As you know, Ritual is a proud part of our Elks heritage.
A very special congratulations goes out to the winners in each of the contests! Competing this year in the Ritual contest were Kenton Lodge # 157 and Elyria Lodge # 465. There were seven individuals who competed in the “Toast” and four in the Flag Charge contests.
The winning team for the Ritual contest was Kenton Lodge # 157. They will be going to the 150th Grand Lodge Convention in to San Antonio, Texas representing the Great State of Ohio. If you’re attending Grand Lodge, please take the time to wish them well and show your support by attending the contest when they compete. I know they’d appreciate the encouragement!

Marysville Elks #1130 Host 16th Annual CP Silent Auction
Marysville Elks #1130 Host 16th Annual CP Silent Auction, rasing more than $2,200 for CP!
Marysville 1130 had their 16th Annual CP silent auction, dinner & mini NASCAR races on April 14th. You can see members "officiating" at the track. Team Taylor came in 1st and 2nd place and donated the prize money back to CP. Third place was won by Ruth Ann Ropp and Honorable Mention was Everett Humble. Pictured below are the winners (including your State President), along with some junior track spotters. When the dust settled and all was said and done, the lodge raised $2,292 for their local CP fund. A good time was had by all!
