Veteran Suicide Prevention Important to Ohio Elks, Newark Elks #391

Lodge members proudly served the veterans of Newark Lodge 391 a Veteran’s Day dinner on Saturday, November 9, 2019.

The guest speaker for the event was Patrick Atkinson of the Save a Warrior Foundation located just outside of Newark.

The lodge members held a 50/50 drawing, a shuffleboard tournament, and collected donations from members to present the Save A Warrior Foundation with a check of $1,300.

Along with the lodge check, the Ohio Elks also donated $2,000 to the suicide program. The Ohio donation will be used for linens and towels for the 10 bed bunk room and the lodge donation will be used to sponsor a cohort through the program.

The Save A Warrior (SAW) program, a 501c3, is free to men and women active duty military, veterans, and 1st responders who are battling the effects of Post-Traumatic Stress and are struggling with thoughts of suicide.
